Brooke M. Govert, Founder of KPS + Criminal Defense Guru

Brooke Govert is a Managing Paralegal with over 18 years of experience working in the legal field. She puts that background to work for you, providing a range of services from administration to social media to legal work, to help you achieve, and exceed, your business goals.

After graduating, she worked for a large Plaintiff’s personal injury firm in Knoxville where she performed litigation support for two partners. At that firm, she also obtained knowledge of domestic relations and bankruptcy law. Later, she became a full-time litigation paralegal supporting several attorneys in the Texas area, where she has honed her business acumen and know-how. In Texas, Brooke was a worker’s compensation litigation paralegal for the managing partner and two associates at Burns, Anderson, Jury, and Brenner, L.L.P. in Austin, Texas.

Finding herself back in Knoxville, Tennessee, she worked for a criminal defense firm in Maryville, Tennessee from 2013 to 2018 where she performed criminal litigation support for an associate that serviced Knox County, Blount County, Loudon County, Monroe County, and Sevier County. Wanting flexibility, Brooke founded Knoxville Paralegal Services. Her experience includes criminal law, personal injury, civil litigation, family law, bankruptcy, and worker’s compensation litigation.

Brooke holds an Associate of Applied Science degree in Paralegal Studies from Pellissippi State Technical Community College and a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Park University.

In her spare time, Brooke enjoys spending time with her husband (a Marine Corps veteran), photography, traveling, playing tennis, and also attending her daughter’s tennis matches (she is on a collegiate scholarship) and she enjoys competitive tennis matches herself!

Wimberly Lewis, Director of Legal Operations/Law School Graduate

Wimberly has extensive experience in Estate Planning, Probate Law, and Litigation.

Wimberly holds a Juris Doctorate degree from Mercer University School of Law and a Bachelor of Legal Studies degree from South University. Over the last 6 years, Wimberly has acquired some knowledge of estate planning, probate, litigation, secured transactions, and criminal law. Wimberly resides in Brunswick, Georgia, where she enjoys contributing to the legal community while balancing her role as a homemaker.

In her spare time, Wimberly enjoys spending time with her family and reading books about leadership and finances.


Sarah Young, CPA/Virtual CFO

Sarah’s experience is strictly in Virtual CFO + Tax Assistance.

Sarah holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of South Carolina and holds a Master’s Degree in Accounting from the University of North Carolina. She is also a Certified Public Accountant, Certified QuickBooks Online ProAdvisor, and GUSTO People Advisor Certified.

KPS has partnered with Sarah not only for her genius “numbers brain” but to be able to assist our clients holistically. We want you to know that having a Virtual CFO for your law firm is very important for the growth and future of the firm. Sarah will give you the big picture in the most simplistic way possible for you to understand.

In her spare time, Sarah enjoys spending time with her family. You can always catch her reading! Fun Fact: Sarah was a high school math teacher for two years!

Charles Jones, Freelancer (Estate Planning + Real Estate Law)

Charles’ experience is extensive in Estate Planning and Real Estate law.

Charles holds a Juris Doctorate degree from Baylor Law School and a Bachelor of Arts in History from Baylor University. He has acquired over the last 42 years some knowledge of estate planning and probate, real estate, banking, securities, and regulatory law. He recently remarried and moved to Knoxville, Tennessee, and enjoys using his knowledge and experience assisting attorneys while working virtually from his home.

In his spare time, he loves spending time with his wife while exploring the Great Smoky Mountains. He also enjoys gardening, reading, refinishing furniture, writing a blog, and occasionally trying to hit a golf ball.

 

Paula Hemphill, Freelance Paralegal (Personal Injury+Estate Planning + Probate)

Paula’s experience is extensive in Personal Injury, Worker’s Compensation, Social Security Disability, Estate Planning, and Probate.

Paula has been a paralegal for 15+ years-playing the part of office manager in the most recent firm she worked in full time. Going freelance has been a dream of hers and she loves helping attorneys stay organized and on task.


She was born and raised in New England and is still a die-hard New England Sports fan-- even if she resides in Nashville now. Those Titans are looking very Patriot-esque lately and she is there for it!

In her spare time, Paula loves to travel and see new places, experience new foods, and revel in the majesty that is the great outdoors. She will take a body of water or a mountain over a city any day! You can find her kayaking on the lake at least once a week soaking in the peace of the water and wildlife. It's her happy place!

Sherie Dexter, Freelance Paralegal (Criminal Law + Litigation + Family Law)

Sherie has extensive experience in Criminal Law, Estates, Trusts & Probate Law, Estate Planning, Guardianship, Family Law, Employment Law, Medical Malpractice, Personal Injury, and large civil litigation files.

Sherie is a seasoned Litigation Paralegal with over 30 years of experience supporting attorneys who practice in the above areas of law in jurisdictions and legal venues across the states of California, Arizona, Hawaii, Florida, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, and Virginia. Sherie also has extensive experience working in the U.S. Attorney’s office in Los Angeles assisting in prosecuting large drug trafficking, wiretap, and money laundering cases.

She has utilized MS Word, Word Perfect, Excel, TimeMatters, PCLaw, Collect Max Win/JST, I-Manage, Concordance, Metastrom, Legal Perfection, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, Quicken, Quickbooks, Timeslips, Lexis-Nexis, Abacus Law, Westlaw, Lois Law, Trail Director, Relativity, CaseMap, MyCase, Clio, PACER, MDEC, Spillman and various other software.

She holds an Associate of Applied Science degree in Paralegal Studies from the American Institute of Paralegal Studies, a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Liberal Arts from York College, a Certificate of Mastery from Lexis-Nexis and is a notary public in Maryland and Delaware.

In her spare time, Sherie enjoys spending time with her significant other, Billy, and enjoying the beach life in Ocean City, Maryland.

Misty Redner, Freelance Paralegal (Immigration Law)

Misty’s experience is extensive in Immigration Law.

Misty has been a paralegal for 6 + years supporting attorneys in the immigration field.

Misty is originally from Texas and only relocated to the East Coast in 2021; along with her husband and children. She has worked for a global law firm handling the top tier clients as an Immigration Paralegal and over the last few years she has worked for one of the nation's leading firms for corporate finance and restructuring, litigation, and project finance handling immigration from the Human Resources standpoint. Misty is highly organized, and detail-oriented and possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills. She has a strong background in legal research and analysis. In her time in immigration, Misty has worked with a wide variety of clients including autonomous vehicles, civil engineering, grocery stores, and healthcare systems. Her expertise has been mainly focused on Business Immigration matters but she has also worked on Family based matters over the last 3 years. She has utilized her medical background to address complex medical-based petitions as well as building trusting lasting relationships with her clients and their employees. 

She holds an Associate of Applied Science in Paralegal Studies from Central Texas College with a coinciding Paralegal Certificate. She is currently enrolled at Texas A&M to complete her Bachelor's degree.

In her spare time, Misty enjoys being outdoors and near water whenever possible.
